Municipality vows to punish those responsible for demolition – Top officials visit building site

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: The Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipality revealed that senior officials of Kuwait Municipality recently visited the site of the building which was demolished in a wrong way in Hawally few days ago, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

A report of the incident has been prepared and referred to the General Investigations Department in preparation for presenting the file to the judiciary.

In a statement issued by the department regarding the video clip that captured the incident and went viral on social media, it affirmed that the municipality has filed an affidavit at the police station to summon the contractor responsible for the incident via Ministry of Interior in order to obtain the contractor’s statement and refer the case to the concerned authorities.

The department explained that Kuwait Municipality, after taking necessary measures, will complete the disciplinary procedures on Sunday.

It will then refer the engineering supervision office to the profession practice committee in order to decide on a suitable punishment in this regard, if it is proven that the office was negligent in their duty.

The contracting company responsible for the demolition of the building will also be referred to the contractors committee for punitive measures against it.

The department indicated that it is waiting for deterrent punishments against the violators as guaranteed by Law No. 33/2016 which stipulates in one of the articles that violators such as office owners, engineering consultants, engineers or supervisors, if found responsible, would be punished with a fine between KD 5,000 and KD 10,000, revocation of the license of the engineering office, delisting of the contractor, and administrative deportation of the violator if he is non-Kuwaiti, as well as imprisonment for one to seven years of the contractor and supervising engineer, if proven that they executed their constructional works fraudulently resulting in the destruction of the structure partially or completely.
