KUWAIT CITY, March 29 (Agencies): Kuwait Municipality (KM) said on Tuesday, that the supervisory team in the Safety Department in Farwaniya Governorate has issued a violation report against the contractor responsible for the site that witnessed the landslide in the Ardiya industrial area. The Municipality stated in a press statement that the supervisory team inspected the site of the soil collapse, as it was found that it was a building under construction in the basement excavation stage, and the contractor has a safety license and a valid tinkering license.

They added that through the pictures taken before the landslide, there is support from the street side, the place of the collapse, as the works were stopped, for the safety of passers-by and services. Earlier, the Ministry of Public Works announced the follow-up of the Ardiya industrial area landslide show “it was caused by one of the contractors who broke one of of the state’s services,” reports Al-Rai daily. Informed sources in the ministry said the “emergency teams affiliated with the maintenance engineering sector examined the landslide site to find out the reasons, as well.”

The site was inspected by the emergency teams of the Ministry of Electricity and Water and the Directorate-General of Fire Department (DGFD) A recent video showing a landslide in the Al-Ardiya industrial area has raised concerns about the safety of the area’s infrastructure. However, according to the offi- cial spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, Eng Ahmed Al- Saleh, the incident does not follow the ministry’s contracts. Al-Saleh denied that any road cave-in had occurred, and that the cause of the damage to the ministry’s services had been ascertained.

For its part, the Kuwait Municipality confirmed that “the oversight team in the Safety Department in Farwaniya Governorate inspected the site, and found that it is a building under construction in the basement excavation stage, and the contractor has a valid safety and demolition license.” There is also speculation that a company may have carried out drilling activities near the area, which could have contributed to the landslide.

The emergency teams are investigating all possibilities to determine the exact cause of the incident. The municipality stated that “through the pictures taken before the landslide, it was found that there was support on the street side, the place of the collapse, where the work was stopped for the safety of passers-by and services, and a violation report was issued against the contractor and the site was followed up in order to preserve public safety.”
