Municipality crackdown

Municipality inspectors at a factory in Sulaibiya.

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 7: The Kuwait Municipality branch in Jahra carried out an intensive inspection campaign targeting factories in Sulaibiya factories. The campaign resulted in the issuance of 12 citations for violation of safety regulations and 60 for cement mixers which did not put notice on machinery. The inspection team also ordered removal of 12 piles of debris and put 10 stickers on abandoned vehicles.

In a press statement, Director of the branch Eng Mohammad Al-Oradi, who participated in the campaign, revealed such campaigns will continue to eliminate violations in the factories area as per the instruction of Municipality Director General Eng Ahmad Al-Manfouhi. He stressed that the law will be applied on everyone.

Meanwhile, inspectors from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry recently raided a company and confiscated 832 kilos of Kuwaiti, Egyptian and Saudi lettuce, reports Al-Anba daily. This was done because the company had falsified the label by saying it is an American product. It has been reported a kilo of American lettuce costs between KD 1.250 and KD 1.750 a kilo, while a carton of Kuwaiti, Egyptian and Saudi lettuce can be bought from 500 fi ls to KD 2.
