Mud shuts drains – ‘Switch off lights’

Municipality workers busy cleaning the streets of water in one of the Kuwaiti localities.

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 11, (KUNA): Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Hussam Al-Roumi said that several roads and sewer manholes have been clogged by mud deposits that were piled up due to the extreme rainfall that hit the country recently.

Al-Roumi made his remarks to KUNA after visiting the civil defense’s operations center. The sewer manholes have been fully drained of water except for the piled-up mud, he noted, adding the Municipality’s teams have headed to remove the mud deposits and clean the manholes.

The minister also mentioned that he has inspected the city of Sabah Al-Ahmad, alongside the Minister of State for Housing Affairs Dr Jinan Boushehri, to look at the damages caused by the heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) urged the public to keep outdoor lights, like on fences, off during heavy rainfall. Khalifa Al- Furaij, Assistant Undersecretary for Water Operation and Maintenance, urged the public to abide by MEW’s instructions during the rain fall.
