KUWAIT CITY, July 21: Ministry of Public Works has shown commitment in dealing with the issue of flying gravel by ordering the contractor handling Fahaheel Road to repair all damaged parts in the roads since last winter, as the contract is still in the warranty period, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Director of Highway Maintenance Department at the Public Authority for Roads and Transport Engineer Khalid Dhawi Al-Osaimi said the works currently include Fahaheel Road, Doha Link and the Sixth Ring Road and other areas.

He declared that the work includes restoration of kilometer two along the Fahaheel Road opposite Shaab Seaside Area, a region that has been witness to the dispersion of gravel since last winter, and as the contract falls under maintenance, the contractor should carry out re-asphalting using the new mix.

He explained that fixing of the surface layer of the road is through the improved mix, which was adopted in accordance with international standards that have been stabilized to ensure that the problem does not recur in the future. He pointed out that monitoring will be done on more than one level to ensure compliance with the set of specifications. He explained that the inspection process starts from the asphalt plant.

A supervisory team of the Ministry of Works and Public Authority for Roads and Transport takes the necessary measurements and tests from each vehicle transporting the asphalt.

The asphalt temperature should be about 175°C and not less than 135°C while spreading on the road. The temperature of the asphalt in each vehicle shall be measured separately when spreading it directly by specialized devices.
