Minister asked about higher studies students on scholarships
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 25: MP Mehalhal Al-Mudaf has forwarded queries to Minister of Interior Sheikh Thamer Ali Al-Sabah, Minister of Defense Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali, Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs Khalifa Hamada, and Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Essa Al-Salman about the subsidiary institutions and companies that the State owns. He wants to know if members of the boards of directors, higher councils and interim committees obtained shares in the abovementioned establishments in exchange for their involvement in procedures related to public tenders. If yes, he requested for details like their names, recruitment date, and dates when the relevant tenders were settled.
MP Hamad Al-Matar submitted questions to Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Nazaha Enhancement Abdullah Al-Rumi about the high allowances granted to the Ministry of Justice undersecretary, which are not in line with the rationalization strategy of the State. The lawmaker demanded for the list of councils, committees and teams in which the undersecretary has been part of since he assumed office till date; including the monthly and annual incentives and allowances the latter has been receiving since 2019 till date. He also asked the minister about the Court of Cassation’s decision in 2020 to nullify the appointment of 500 experts at the Ministry of Justice, followed by the announcement of vacancies and recruitment of almost a thousand experts.
He requested for a copy of the job advertisement published in 2020; criteria for choosing the best of applicants; rationale behind increasing the number of appointed experts from 500 to almost a thousand; names, qualifications and experience of the appointed experts; and names, positions and experience of the members of the committee tasked to conduct exams and personal interviews for the applicants. Al-Matar also forwarded queries to Minister of Higher Education Dr Muhammad Al-Fares about the number of higher studies students who were granted overseas scholarship to obtain masteral and doctorate degrees, and requested the ministry to extend the period of their scholarship because of the problems they faced when the Covid-19 crisis surfaced. He wants to know the number of students enrolled in higher studies courses at Kuwait University and the extension period of their studies due to the Covid-19 crisis.
The lawmaker submitted queries to Minister of Education Dr Ali Fahd Al- Mudaf about the public schools. He inquired about the addresses of these schools, level of these schools’ readiness for academic year 2021/2022, companies which signed cleaning contracts with the ministry, copies of these contracts, and cleaning budget for every school. Considering that almost two thirds of the Kuwaiti population consist of youths who graduated recently, MP Bader Al- Humaidi forwarded questions to Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Essa Al-Salman about the plan of the Public Authority of Manpower (PAM) to generate jobs for nationals, especially the youths.
