KUWAIT CITY, Sept 25: The Civil Section of the Cassation Court has ordered an incumbent MP to pay KD 2,000 as compensation for offending the dignity and religious doctrine of a citizen.

The Public Prosecution charged the lawmaker with offending the citizen through the comments he posted on Twitter. Lawyer for the citizen, Attorney Ali Al- Ali, said the accused insulted one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and posted comments that his client follows the ‘takfir’ ideology from the Shia sect.

The lawmaker denied the charges when he appeared in court, while Al- Ali demanded for KD 5,001as temporary compensation for damages caused by the lawmaker’s comments. The Cassation Court upheld the verdict of the First Instance and Appeals courts that fined the accused KD 100 and referred the case to the concerned civil court.
