KUWAIT CITY, Sept 3: Disagreement between the Parliament and the government over the implementation of the decision to increase fuel prices will be the headline of the next legislative round, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources. Sources expect the disagreement to reach the level of parliamentary questioning which will start once the legislature opens.

Sources pointed out the fuel price hike is considered an added burden on the shoulders of MPs, indicating they have two ways to deal with the critical situation — cancel the decision and resort to parliamentary questioning as the last stage of negotiations with the government. Sources also unveiled the plan of MP Ahmed Al-Qudaibi to question Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr Yusuf Al-Ali on freezing the prices of commodities – a decision that the minister cancelled three months after its issuance.

Sources said MP Abdullah Al-Maayouf is expected to question the minister of health on the agreement with a foreign company to supervise public hospitals and the overseas treatment controversy. Sources added MP Hamdan Al-Azmi will most likely grill Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and acting Minister of Oil Anas Al-Saleh on the rising prices of fuel.

Sources disclosed Al-Azmi will use the government’s promise not to implement the fuel price hike without consulting the Parliament as basis of the grilling. On the other hand, Al-Jarida daily has reported that Al-Saleh denied the alleged deal between Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) and Israeli Delek Group. This is in response to the question of MP Faisal Al-Kandari on the purported deal. It can be recalled that KOC also denied having any deal with Delek Group
