KUWAIT CITY, Nov 26: Vice- President of the Kuwaiti Liberal Movement Anwar Al-Rasheed expressed sadness over the deportation of the Egyptian thinker Ahmed Zayed due to his ideas related to enlightenment, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

He stressed that the government always seeks to bury any thought related to enlightenment with the aim of achieving its interests and satisfying religious currents. On his part, the Egyptian researcher Ahmed Zayed said the success of MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaie in expelling him from Kuwait is “the triumph of the cowardly and the weak, because he did not confront him with thought, science and dialogue”.

He indicated that the Islamic currents outweigh the liberal trend in many societies not because of their power but because the ignorant and simple people admire extremist currents more than those that embrace enlightenment and dialogue.

Zayed affirmed that educational institutions can play a role in correcting the liberal concepts through educational curricula, stressing that president Sadat had allied with the currents of political Islam, and had released Islamists from prison and opened the way for them in the political arena but the result was that he was assassinated.
