MoI opens investigation into alleged clashes and firing in school premises

KUWAIT CITY, May 29: The Ministry of the Interior has opened an investigation into the clashes which allegedly happened inside a foreign school in Maidan Hawalli after a military officer fired in the air during a brawl, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to police the Operations Room of the Ministry of Interior received a report on the incident that a number of persons had entered the school during the graduation ceremony.

The securitymen immediately rushed to the school and discovered 12 young men had gate crashed into the school uninvited during the ceremony.

A security source told the daily, after the uninvited people entered, a police officer fired in the air during a confrontation in the presence of the officer from the Rawdah Investigations Department who tried to release one of the intruders.

However, the Al-Anba daily said, police seized 3 uninvited juveniles while climbing the fence and one of them called his relatives and friends, including a security police officer in the Rawdah police station who intervened to release a member of his tribe.

A security source said that the incident indicated abuses committed by the former who used a firearm and the second party exceeded the limits of his jurisdiction. The Ministry of Interior is expected to condemn the parties to the incident for applying the law by their hands in this way.

The police officer said he shot in the air to send a signal to a nearby police station. The two cases have been filed at the Maidan Hawalli Police Station against the two police officers. The incident, which was widely circulated on social media, was filmed and documented in a video footage.
