‘MoI’ issues new regulations concerning domestic workers – Basic pay shouldn’t be less than KD 60 monthly

KUWAIT CITY, July 13: The Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has issued new regulations concerning domestic labor and related procedures.

The first article states that domestic workers recruiting agencies must obtain guarantee of KD 40,000 valid for two years from a local bank starting from the date of filing the application in order to obtain or renew license for practicing activities that involve the recruitment of domestic workers from outside the country.

It stipulates the issuance or renewal of license for companies that recruit domestic workers from outside the country requires guarantee of KD 100,000 from a local bank and in the event of opening branches, the company will obtain additional guarantee of KD 40,000 for each branch with two years validity starting from the date of filing the application.

Meanwhile, article two states that contracts for bringing in domestic workers — as indicated in Article 18 of Law 68/2015 are signed in accordance with amended law, while article three indicates the basic salary of a domestic worker shouldn’t be less than KD 60 monthly.

Article four stipulates that legal sector of the Domestic Workers Department will convene to settle disputes in accordance with stipulated procedures incase of disagreement between parties of the contract signed for recruiting domestic workers.
