MoH inspecting health facilities, stores to check drugs expiration

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10, (KUNA): Kuwait Ministry of Health (MoH) started inspection campaigns of government and private health facilities to check expiration of medicine and cosmetic materials, in order to make sure they were safe for human beings, an MoH official said Tuesday.

The campaigns are in line with Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Bassel Al-Sabah’s decision to ban sale of drugs, food additives and cosmetic materials which would expire in less than 30 days. Officials from the Medicine and Food Monitoring Department will be inspecting government health facilities, cooperative societies and stores selling food additives, Dr Abdullah Al- Bader, MoH Assistant Undersecretary for Medicine and Food Monitoring, told KUNA. He was speaking on sidelines of a committee meeting discussing classification and registration of medical specialties in GCC countries. In another development, Kuwait’s voluntary team ‘Shefaa’ provided on Wednesday medical care to more than 200 Syrian patients, conducting difficult and delicate surgical procedures during a humanitarian trip to refugee camps in Jordan.

Media coordinator for the 12-member medical team Tareq Al-Mulla told KUNA that the trip lasted for 10 days, during which the doctors conduct necessary tests and operations for refugees in agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), charities and Jordanian hospitals. He pointed out that the surgical intervention included removal of benign and malignant tumors from brains of a number of patients, with the help of Jordanian doctors.

The surgeons have also treated hydrocephalus, suffered by an eight-month-old child, in addition to treating a number of refugees with ill eyes. He mentioned that the voluntary team had offered financial support for patients to cover costs of transportation, necessary analysis and diagnostic examination.
