MoH calls for withdrawal of some cough medicines – New hospital in Central Prison eyed

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 26: The Ministry of Health issued a circular on the withdrawal of some cough medicines from pharmacies to return them to the concerned industrial company in order to make certain modifications and then supply the pharmacies with the modified medicines, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting sources.

Sources said the ministry does not allow the sale of counterfeit medicines being advertised on various social networking sites as these products are not licensed by the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority (PRA). Sources added that painkillers and antibiotics are the most widely used medicines.

In another development, the ministry has announced that a new hospital will be established in the Central Prison and the project will be included in the general budget of the State A high-ranking source from the ministry said the project will be implemented in coordination with the Interior Ministry, indicating the capacity will be 20 beds and it will offer the most vital medical specializations.

The source revealed the hospital will consist of departments for men and women in different specializations such as dentistry, orthopedics, ophthalmology and cardiology.

The source also unveiled a plan to construct another hospital for the police forces with a capacity of 500 beds and the same specializations . Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has endorsed the new terms and conditions for permanent and temporary committees in line with the governmental rationalization policy, reports Al-Anba daily.

The new regulations stipulate reduction of the number of committees in accordance with the actual need and their functions should not overlap with any administrative unit. Other stipulations include the formation temporary committees for three months that can be renewed only once and the members should be not more than 10.
