KUWAIT CITY, June 1: The Civil Circuit of the Court of Appeals upheld the verdict issued by a lower court which ordered a renowned Kuwaiti model and fashionista to pay compensation worth KD 1,000 to an undisclosed company for the moral and material damages she caused to the company.

According to a lawsuit filed by the counsel to company Lawyer Dalal Al-Mutairi, the company owns agencies aligned with top international companies including one with the trademark of lenses which was abused and defamed by the defendant.

The owner of the company was shocked by the attitude of the fashionista, who has a strong following on Snapchat and Instagram, and had published direct offensive video clips about the products of the plaintiff who owns exclusive agency for those products in Kuwait.

Lawyer Al-Mutairi affirmed that the accused also owns a rival company and had challenged to import the same products. She accompanied her statements with solid evidences including documents proving her client’s exclusive agency rights in addition to the offensive and abusive video clips the accused published on her social media accounts.

Jordanian acquitted: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted a Jordanian expatriate of issuing a dud cheque for KD 250,000 and referred the case to Civil Court. Lawyer Jarrah Al-Shareika defending the suspect insisted the penal court lacked jurisdiction to judge a civil lawsuit. He stressed the cheque was part of a partnership agreement and fi- nancial guarantee in favor of the plaintiff. He noted his client has been investing money in many companies, and the act is common in commercial deals.
