KUWAIT CITY, Aug 10: The owners of mobile carts are suffering due to the lack of spaces for them; considering that only 400 sites were allocated for more than 1,800 licensed carts, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting sources. Sources revealed Kuwait Municipality is planning to request for the transfer of responsibility over the allocation of such sites from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to the Municipality to ensure all the license holders can continue their business.

Sources also confirmed that work is underway to amend the provisions for these vehicles in the new road occupancy list, indicating the amendments include specification of additional sites and these will be submitted to the Municipal Council for discussion soon. Sources added the Municipality has repeatedly called for implementation of its decision to allot more spaces in order to accommodate all those who have been licensed to engage in this business; most notably the parking lots of clubs, public parks and the coastal strip. However, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has yet to approve these sites, sources said.
