KUWAIT CITY, June 11: Ministry of Interior, under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al- Hamad Al-Sabah, has been exerting tremendous efforts for protecting Kuwait from any security breaches and negligence, particularly at Kuwait’s Abdali border with Iraq, as a necessary part of the security plan to protect the country, reports Al-Rai daily.

Few days ago, the minister affirmed that he will not accept any form of complacency or lack of seriousness in the execution of the tasks entrusted to the senior officers and securitymen.

According to a security source, a detailed report concerning the increasing security loopholes at Abdali border checkpoint will be referred to the minister to take appropriate action against defaulters and those negligent about homeland security.

Meanwhile, a customs source revealed that the management of the Abdali border checkpoint failed to act in addressing the gaps at the checkpoint, especially in terms of negligence in the inspection of trucks coming from Iraq, despite recording observations and several complaints in this regard.

He pointed out a recent situation wherein a bus from Iraq and heading to Bahrain via Kuwait managed to pass all inspection procedures even though explosives were present on the bus. He explained that the security situation around Kuwait is very sensitive and there is no place for any form of negligence or failure to follow-up.

It is not at all acceptable to ignore security remarks no matter how simple they are. The source said the deputy directors of General Customs Department Adnan Al-Qasibiy and Osama Al-Roumi made a field trip to Abdali border checkpoint last week and recorded security violations, adding that such violations cannot be tolerated at all as they pertain to the national security of Kuwait.

The two deputies reported that the entry and exit of some trucks in and out of Kuwait were facilitated by some military and security officials at the land ports. However, the purpose behind this, whether it was aimed to avoid paying taxes or for smuggling, was unknown.

The source revealed that an Egyptian trucker was caught by State Security officials few days ago. He admitted that he managed to enter and leave Kuwait via Abdali border but his movements were not documented.

This has happened with other drivers and owners of trucks through cooperation of some employees working at the land ports
