MEW currently employs 17,984 people, Kuwaitis constitute 89 percent

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: Explanatory document for the budget of Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) for the current fiscal year indicates that 17,984 people are currently employed by the ministry, among them 15,961 citizens constituting 89 percent of the overall personnel and 2,023 non-Kuwaitis representing 11 percent of the figure, reports Al-Qabas daily

The document explained the proposed budget of the ministry entails creating 1,330 vacancies for Kuwaitis who have been appointed by the ministry on temporary basis for fiscal year 2015/2016 — as specified in the two supplementary budgets of the same year.

The document showed that 2,421 Kuwaitis and 245 non-Kuwaitis are working in the ministry’s headquarters, while 2,322 Kuwaitis are employed in the power network sector, along with 512 non-Kuwaitis.

Meanwhile, there are 2,514 Kuwaiti personnel in the groundwater production and water distribution networks sector, in addition to 278 non-Kuwaiti employees, while the outdoor service sector has 4,105 Kuwaitis and 89 non-Kuwaiti personnel, and the indoor service sector employs 509 Kuwaitis and 110 non- Kuwaitis.

Regarding the number of citizens working in the power stations and water distillation sector, they constitute 4,090, besides 789 non-Kuwaitis.
