Media awash with rights abuse clips – Bloggers cautioned

KUWAIT CITY, April 4: Lately, social media is awash with agitations to defend domestic workers rights and calls on sponsors to be humane in their treatment since they are also human.

The sponsors are reminded that people engage in domestic jobs in order to meet their needs, reports Al-Qabas daily. “Two striking events taking place within the last few days prompted the reaction of bloggers. The first incident involved a housemaid who tried to commit suicide and the fall was recorded. Another event attracted bloggers after an Arab media outfit posted the footage of a group of female workers in a domestic workers bureau.

The current situation compels bloggers to be conservative, especially in the GCC countries. “Bloggers passionate about the rights of domestic workers expose the rate at which workers rights are violated through incidents happening every now and then. They affirmed recording domestic workers amounts to human degradation.”
