Many ‘runaway’ maids found in bogus office

KUWAIT CITY, May 24: Director General of Domestic Labor Department Major General Talal Marafie and his deputy Brigadier Abdullah Al-Hajri raided a bogus manpower recruitment office for sheltering runaway housemaids and exploiting them to work illegally.

They also apprehended a ‘middleman’ who delivered the housemaids to their new employers after the latter had paid the service fee of KD 1,300 to the bogus agency. Security sources said officers from the Domestic Labor Department took into custody a large number of domestic residency violators from bogus recruitment agencies in Jahra area.

Robbed at gunpoint: Police are looking for an unidentified ‘armed’ person for robbing an Indian, reports Al-Shahed daily. According to a security source, the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received a call from an unidentified person who reported seeing a person lying on an open ground in Wafra. Police and paramedics rushed to the spot and found the Indian. After regaining consciousness, he told police he was walking along the road and an unidentified person carrying a gun threatened to kill him and drove off with his wallet and cell phone
