Lue, Nanang outlast rivals, clinch 5th One-Day tourney – Srinivas, Vikas top Intermediate Level

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 27: The 5th One-Day Tournament Cup 2016 was a hit as a throng of badminton lovers and enthusiasts gathered and played at the Al-Nasser Sports Complex to join the friendly competition organized by the Filipino Badminton Club in Kuwait.

Advance Level

The stellar team who were able to take home the championship crown for this level is Lue Dex and Nanang. They claimed the crown by defeating Kishore and Mohammad in the final match 21-18, 21-17.

Team Lue Dex and Nanang moved to the quarter-final by outlasting Mathew and Sarin 11-15, 15-10, 15-14, taming Kishore and Mohammad 10-15, 15-9, 15-14 and defeating Joenel and Jomz 14-15, 15-12, 15-14. On the other hand Kishore and Mohammad also moved up by edging Mathew and Sarin 15-13, 13-15, 15-5.

In the quarter-final, Aquis and Aying won against Mathew and Sarin 15-12, 9-15, 15-13 while Kishore and Mohammad pummeled Jomz and Joenel. In the semifinal, Lue Dex and Nanang faced off and won against Aquis and Iyang 15-14, 13-15, 15-10 before claiming their title in the final.

Intermediate Level

In this level, the Srinivas and Vikas Singh tamed their opponents Essam Messalmani and Melvin Bancud in the final 21-20, 21-10.

During the elimination round, Vikas and Srinivas earned their spot in the quarter-final as they aced all their matches, slammed teams Jose and Cris 15-12, 15-5, overcame Essam and Melvin 14-15, 15-9, 15-10, smashed Randy and Marvin 15-10, 15-11 and thumped team Raja and Medo 12-15, 15-10, 15-9.

On the other hand, Essam and Melvin also earned a spot in the finals by beating Basith and Rahul 15-9, 15-9 and Randy and Marvin 15-14, 15-5.

In the quarter-final, Srinivas and Vikas clobbered Muniyah and Ramdinesh 15-5, 15-10, Randy and Marvin thrashed Gino and Henry 15-11, 15-10, Basith and Rahul hammered Sateesh and Neil 15-11, 15-11 and Essam and Melvin flattened Raja and Medo 15-14, 15-11 which earned the winning team a spot in the semifinal.

In the semis, Srinivas and Vikas outlasted Randy and Martin 11-15, 15-13, 15-10 while Essam and Melvin tamed Basith and Rahul 12-15, 15-8, 15-9 to be able to earn a spot in the finals.

Novice 1

Ainur Duma Jul and Ben Padura were declared King and Queen of Court in this level. They defeated the 1st runners-up Ryan Rivera and Berling Calderon in the final 17-21, 21-9, 21-17.

During the elimination round, Ainur and Ben defeated Joy and Joema 15-14, 15-13 and thumped James and Jeanette 15-9, 15-12. Ryan and Berlin were able to tame James and Jeanette 15-12, 15-5, hammered Ainur and Ben 15-13, 15-9 and flattened Tony and Charles 15-12, 15-10.

In the quarter-final, Ryan and Berlin defeated Joy and Joemar 15-11, 15-12; Robert and Hari pummeled Richard and Rafiq 15-9, 15-9; Gigi and Eric smashed Jeanette and James 15-9, 15-12 and Ainur and Ben clobbered team Neethi and Muthu 15-13, 15-6.

In the semifinal, Ryan and Berlin won against Robert and Hari 15-11, 12-15, 15-13 and Ainur and Ben outclassed Gigi and Eric 15-13, 15-12. The two winning teams then moved on to the final round.

Novice 2

For this level, Madhu and Gowtham were the winners. They beat Choi Comendador and Aleks Hernandez in the finals 21-13, 21-16.

During the elimination round, Madhu and Gowtham tamed Gemma and Shy 15-9, 15-12, overcame Cherry and Elly 15-14, 13-15, 15-13 and slammed Abhi and Glyza 15-8, 15-12.

On the other hand, Choi and Aleks won against Madhu and Gowtham 15-10, 14-15, 15-14, outclassed Randy and Archie 15-11, 12-15, 15-14 and smashed Nihar and Eric 15-13, 15-8.

In the quarter-final, Enrique and Nasser thumped Ambar and Chato 15-12, 15-10. Choi and Aleks prevailed against Ben and Aldrin 15-8, 13-15, 15-13. Madhu and Gowtham thrashed Jason and Ano 15-11, 15-8 while Riyad and Allysa defeated Sonny and Rhommel 13-15, 15-12, 15-12.

In the semifinal, Choi and Aleks outlasted Enrique and Nasser 15-7, 12-15, 15-7 while Madhu and Gowtham overcame Alyssa and Riyad 10-15, 15-9, 15-10 which led the two for a face off in the final.

Novice 3

For this level, the team who won the elusive Championship title is Rozyl and Patric who defeated Raj and Mostafa in the final 21-20, 21-15.

During the elimination, Rozyl and Patric thumped Hussein and Arif twice 15-10, 15-6 and 15-7, 15-3 and also hammered Glen and Rizalina 15-10, 15-9.

On the other hand, Raj and Mostafa tamed Kenneth and Loi twice 15-12, 15-12 and 9-15, 15-13, 15-14 and prevailed against Yohan and Mishal 7-15, 15-9, 15-13.

During the quarter-final Ajay and Aidan thumped July and Dodon 15-14, 15-13. Rozyl and Patric defeated Mishal and Yohan 15-11, 13-15, 15-14.

Amani and Kumar 15-12, 15-5 while Raj and Mostafa outclassed Jelysey and Mark 15-13, 10-15, 15-12. In the semifinal, Royzl and Patric overcame Ajay and Aidan 7-15, 15-14, 15-11 while Raj and Mostafa outlasted Amani and Kumar 15-14, 14-15, 15-12.

The Filipino Badminton Club in Kuwait headed by Noel Candolesas and directors Nato Calanog and Alex Hernandez organized yet another successful tournament that not only promoted health and fitness but also united people through friendship and camaraderie beyond the boundaries of culture and nationality.

The tournament composed of 5 levels, Advance, Intermediate, Novice 1, 2 and 3. Scoring was up to 15 except for the final round which was up to 21. For each level the top 8 teams moved to the quarter-final and competed for the Championship Title.
