Loyalty to Mishal’s tears

IT is the second sublime inaugural speech after that of HH the late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem at the opening of the first democratic legislative term in 1963.

It is the speech that uplifts all Kuwaitis’ hopes for a better future, after witnessing in the past few months the elimination of confusion and absurd conflicts, and the destructive debates on the development process which, in the past three decades witnessed, many setbacks and even disasters.

The recent speech of His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad in the National Assembly clearly reflected the conscience of every Kuwaiti who loves this country.  Without a doubt, it is a historical speech. After the June 22 speech, the recent speech is considered the roadmap for the strong and capable Kuwait.

Therefore, the language was unambiguous in terms of the loving tone emanating from the heart, or the wise and cautions directives.

For this reason, it is a discourse of advice and guidance, where there is no room for inaction — neither from the executive authority nor its legislative counterpart.

Accountability of ministers by His Highness the Deputy Amir is a must.  He was entrusted by His Highness the Amir to manage public affairs until Almighty Allah grants him recovery and safe return to exercising his powers.

Also, the people will definitely hold their parliamentary representatives accountable if they fail to honor the trust which they have been given to manage their affairs.

For the first time in the history of Kuwait, there was unparalleled consensus of the political, social and economic elites on the inaugural speech which touched on an honest description of the internal, regional and international conditions, and the responsibilities of every citizen, regardless of their position; as well as the administration, ruling house, Parliament and Council of Ministers.

Today, there are no longer excuses, but roles that everyone must play in order to express their commitment in the service of their country. The political leadership rendered to Caesar the things that are for Caesar, and to people the things that are for the people.

The legislative authority does not encroach on the powers of the executive authority, nor engage in rhetoric on electoral gains at the expense of the people.

In this speech, Kuwait completed its entry into the new phase; that is, after establishing the Amiri speech four months ago.  It was delivered by His Highness the Crown Prince on behalf of His Highness the Amir.

Between the two speeches, there were several indications of the importance of the great trustee of the fate of the State at this sensitive stage, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad, who loves his country and is loyal to it.  He is known for not flattering anyone even if it is at the expense of himself.  He is strict in procedures and firm in his words.

Yes, everyone is a partner in bearing the responsibility of building and reforming — the people and the ruling family as per their positions and capacities.

Therefore, if the government is under the eyes of His Highness the Deputy Amir in terms of follow up, and after pledging: “We will be close to everyone. We will hear, see and follow up what is happening,” the representatives must be held accountable for any failure in their tasks.

It is true that His Highness sealed his speech with tears, but tears of loyalty to His Highness the Amir and sincerity of the supplication in order for Almighty Allah to grant him quick recovery, so that the joy of Kuwait will be complete.

Therefore, Sheikh Mishal’s tears are the heartbeats of sincere love for Kuwait and its people. Rather, these are the tears of all Kuwaitis whose hearts were warmed by the ‘New Era’ speech.

Will the government and the National Assembly be up to this great trust borne by the members of the two authorities?

Will the Kuwaiti people be faithful to the covenant and get rid of the cycles of factionalism, closure, backwardness and stirring up strife, and then begin the process of hard work for the sake of the advancement of their homeland?
