KUWAIT CITY, Feb 3: Customs officers foiled an attempt to smuggle 1,176 bottles of imported liquor worth about KD 70,000 into the country via a shipping container that arrived at Shuwaikh Port from an Asian country.
According to sources, the officers at the port suspected a container and checked it to find the liquor bottles carefully hidden in huge paper rolls found inside the container.
Director General of General Customs Department Jamal Aljelawi ordered the preparation of a report on the incident, and informed the concerned authorities to take necessary action. He expressed appreciation for the efforts exerted by the Shuwaikh Port customs officers, and instructed the customs officers in all borders to remain alert for countering such attempts to smuggle illicit goods into the country.
