Down payment to be made online: Al-Sabeeh

Al-Sabeeh

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 1: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, the State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh revealed a plan to visit four Asian countries — India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Philippine — after Eid Al-Adha holiday to sign labor agreements for hiring housemaids from those countries. While addressing the press after a meeting with the new UNICEF Representative to the Arabian Gulf countries Eltayeb Adam, the minister said concerned officials had met and laid down five approaches in relation to the housemaid issue, which will be concluded this summer.

She stated one of those approaches is about dealing with concerned authorities in the countries of origin to lay down principles for the sums payable, and assured all knotty issues in that regard will be handled with flexibility during the visit.

Follow-up
She indicated they will continue to follow-up the issue as a way of overcoming obstacles — either in the administration or decisions of the Council of Ministers. She noted the ministry will use the same method of booking the multipurpose event halls for hiring housemaids, saying application will be done via telephone based on age and nationality, and down payment will be made online.

She pointed out that the method will wipe out all forms of corruption, if any, and guarantee the rights of all parties involved since it’s an online deal. She explained the committee that went to India will brief her to facilitate the signing of agreement after Eid.

She emphasized that online transactions will make things easy, because the computer does not lie, and technology is the only way out of the problem. She pointed to the existence of Domestic Labor Department in the organizational structure of workers, noting the authority has since been working on the licenses of about 300 violating offices.

She reiterated the ministry is ready to work with about 100 offices that comply with regulations, and “It is unfortunate that some offices only exist by name without engaging in activities related to hiring services. Al-Durra Company is a party to the solution, so the authority will support them to organize their activities and to open branches in the cooperative societies.
