Kuwait’s Al-Dousari wins gold at World Shooting Para Cup

Kuwaiti shooter Atef Al-Dousari won his first gold at a World Shooting Para Sport World Cup in UAE’s Al Ain.

Al-Dousari came first in the R4 mixed 10 metres air rifle standing SH2 with a score of 253.0 points, outperforming Great Britain’s silver medallist Ryan Cockbill, who took the silver medal with 251.8.

Kholaif al-Qahs, head of Kuwaiti delegation, expressed his happiness for this achievement, which could be an additional to Kuwait’s sports of disabled in different competitions on global, European, Arab and Asian levels.

Al-Dousari was determined to defeat his rival during the event in which 77 shooters from 20 countries took part, al-Qahs told KUNA in a statement.

Hopes are pinned on Al-Dousari for further trophies in the upcoming contests, he noted.

In a similar statement to KUNA, the champion, Al-Dousari, said that the win doubled his joy as it coincides with celebrations of national days.

He noted that he dedicated the trophy to His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince, the government, people and Kuwaiti Disabled Sport Club.

The championship features teams from Australia, Austria, Brazil, France, Georgia, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Thailand, Ukraine, Britain, Sweden, Kuwait, UAE, Hungary and Slovenia.

Meanwhile, President of Kuwait and Arab Shooting Federations Eng Duaij Khalaf Al-Otaibi paid tribute to shooter Atef Al-Dousari for winning the gold medal in the 10-meter air rifle shooting at the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup 2017 being held in Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Feb 19-28, 2017.

Al-Otaibi also honored HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the international achievement of the champion shooter.  He affirmed Kuwait Shooting Sport Club, in cooperation with Kuwait Disabled Club, is keen on providing all the necessary facilities at Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex for shooting champions with special needs.
