‘Kuwaiti student in US arrested over child pornography videos’

KUWAIT CITY, April 16: Office of Attorney General of Pittsburgh announced that a Kuwaiti student of Pennsylvania University has been arrested for possessing videos of child pornography, reports Al-Rai daily.

In an official statement, the office said the Kuwaiti student is scheduled to appear in a hearing session on April 26 to face that charge along with another related to the use of a mobile phone in violation of the criminal laws. Investigators, quoting a local news cable, said they decided to arrest the Kuwaiti teenager after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

They reported finding 20 video clips of child pornography in the ‘Dropbox’ online account used by the Kuwaiti student in Kuwait and the United States of America. During interrogations, the student confessed that he knows child pornography is illegal and that he had viewed the clips on his mobile device.

However, he insisted that he is not fond of such pornography and that a person had sent the videos to him. According to press sources, no lawyers have so far been appointed for defending the student.

8-member gang busted for stealing 26 tons aluminium worth KD 19,000: Jahra securitymen arrested an eight-member gang of Asians and Arabs for stealing 26 tons of pure aluminum worth KD 19,000 from a company warehouse in Kabad area. The Public Relations and Security Media Department of Ministry of Interior disclosed that detective officers from Jahra Security Directorate launched extensive investigations in Amghara Scrapyard and Kabad area after receiving a complaint about the theft of 26 tons of pure aluminum valued at KD 19,000 from a company warehouse. Investigations led to the discovery of a gang consisting of five Egyptians, two Indians and an Iranian who stole the aluminum and transported them in two half-lorries. After taking necessary legal procedures, seven members of the gang were arrested with the complete stolen items. Securitymen later apprehended the Iranian storekeeper. The suspects confessed to the theft and have since been referred to the concerned authority for necessary legal action against them.

‘Farewell to bachelorhood’: In compliance with the directive of Ahmadi Security Chief Brigadier Abdullah Sefah, security officers arrested a youth for reckless driving and performing stunts with his car to celebrate his friend’s bidding farewell to bachelorhood according to an inscription written on his car “Congratulations for Bidding Farewell to Bachelorhood”. The officers detained the youth and confiscated his car which was taken to the Seized Vehicles Garage. The officers also impounded four other cars used by some other youths for performing stunts in the same wedding ceremony.

KD 370,000 worth insecticide: Central Tenders Committee has approved the request of Ministry of Health to buy insecticide worth KD 370,000 to combat the German cockroach, reports Al-Anba daily quoting informed sources. They said this insecticide is being purchased based on the request of the Rodent and Insect Control Department in Ministry of Health.

No casualties in fire: Firemen evacuated a house in Qurain area and extinguished a fire inside the basement without report of human casualties. Fire sources said the Operations Room of the Fire Department was notified about a fire in the room of driver of the house, and deployed a team of firemen to the scene to deal with the situation. Initial investigation revealed that the fire was caused by excessive load. A case was registered.

Woman arrested: An unidentified woman escaped from Salmiya Police Station where she was detained but was later caught, reports Al-Shahed According to security sources, the woman was arrested over a theft crime and she was in the investigator’s office when she ran and escaped. However, securitymen searched and eventually caught her in a taxi.

Hunting guns seized: Police officers from Ahmadi Security Command arrested four youths for the possession of four hunting guns (shozan) in Dhabee’ah, where they were hunting birds. According to security sources, the four youths were taken to Mina Al-Abdallah Police Station.

250 drug pills seized: The Farwaniya police have arrested three Kuwaitis – believed to be former convicts — for possessing 250 drug pills, reports Al-Jaridah daily. The men were arrested on suspicion during a security check. Police also found on the men KD 130. They have been handed over to the General Department for Drugs Control.
