Kuwaiti citizen abducted in Iraq released

KUWAIT CITY, May 9: Iraqi security forces in coordination with the foreign ministries of Kuwait and Iraq and Kuwaiti embassy in Iraq, freed Kuwaiti Khalid Abdulrazzak Sarhan Abdullah, who was kidnapped while on a business trip in Iraq, reports Al-Anba daily.

According to reports, Abdullah who owns butchery in Kuwait, travelled to Iraq frequently to buy sheep and was reportedly kidnapped during his last visit in March. Earlier reports said the kidnappers had demanded one million dollars ransom and failure to deliver had threatened to execute him. Without going into more details, the daily said, negotiations led to the release of the businessman.

Abdullah is said to have returned to Kuwait through the Abdali border post after routine interrogations at the Kuwaiti consulate in Basra. Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, the Ministry of Health is planning to send Kuwaiti patients for overseas treatment to South Korea, reports Al-Anba daily quoting reliable sources. The sources affirmed the issue will be discussed during the visit of HH the Prime Minister to South Korea.

The Prime Minister is expected to sign an agreement in this regard and exchange experiences in the area of overseas treatment and health issues between the two countries. The sources added, those suffering from cancer and those opting for organ transplant and plastic surgery will benefit from the agreement.
