Kuwaiti and his wife detained for investigation over death of Filipina maid

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: Personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department have detained an unidentified Kuwaiti for extensive interrogation and following the death of his Filipino maid who died at the Al-Sabah Hospital, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to security sources, the Kuwaiti – who is working for the Ministry of Interior – and his wife have been detained because there were bruises and abrasions on the body of the maid.

A security source told the daily the Kuwaiti, born in 1971 and working for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took his 26-year-old maid to the hospital for treatment and she died, following which the medical staff reported the incident to the police because the bruises and abrasions were clearly visible on the victim’s body.

The same source said the Kuwaiti told investigators that when he came home he found the maid in a pathetic condition and he only wanted to help her.

He added, he is not aware if the maid and his wife were involved in a dispute following which the security authorities detained the wife at the Sulaibikhat Police Station for interrogation. In the meantime the remains of the victim have been referred to Forensics.
