Kuwait will no longer hire expats in oil sector

KUWAIT, June 10: Minister of Oil, Acting Minister of Electricity and Water Dr. Khaled Al-Fadhel announced on Wednesday stoppage of employing expatriates in Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and its subsidiaries. (KUNA)

The Minister of Oil, addressing a parliamentary committee session, said the non-Kuwaitis would not be hired in the KPC and its subsidiary for the year 2020-2021 and their numbers as to special contracts would be trimmed.
He warned that he would not be inactive toward layoff of Kuwaiti citizens serving in the national petroleum companies.

Price of the Kuwaiti oil has dropped during the global coronavirus crisis due to market glut and demand drop however the markets have recovered and the prices of the crude have turned up, he said.

Oil sector must not remain the sole source for income, he stressed, emphasizing necessity of involving the private sector in boosting the national economy, in addition to enacting legislation’s to protect it
