Kuwait Navy, Coast Guard seize 30 Iranian fishing vessels

KUWAIT CITY, July 23: A joint security force from the Kuwaiti Navy and the General Administration of Coast Guard, in cooperation with the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources and Environment Public Authority have seized 30 Iranian fishing boats inside Kuwait’s territorial waters, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting military sources.

The Iranians were caught fishing using forbidden fishing tools which affect the strategic stock of fish, and damages the marine environment. The sources said the force confiscated the fish and shrimp and the equipment and documented the damage to the marine environment. The sources added, the patrols belonging to the Marine Force and the Coast Guard, have officially assumed responsibility for security and control of Kuwait’s territorial waters.

The security force has clear and explicit instructions to deal promptly and firmly with any infringements or abuses inside Kuwaiti waters, indicating that the joint authorities have prepared a detailed report which will be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the violations committed by Iranian boats and documented their illegal entry into Kuwait’s waters, stressing that the Foreign Ministry has sent the report to its Iranian counterpart detailing the abuses.
