KUWAIT CITY, June 7: The Kuwaiti National Football team will be squaring off against their Indonesia counterparts on Wednesday for the 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers. The group’s matches will be hosted by Kuwait until June 14. Fans of the “blues” will be heading to Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium to see their favorite team face the Southeastern nation’s team at 7:15 pm local-time. Kuwait are hoping to overcome their failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by qualifying for the prestigious Asian tournament. Prior to the upcoming qualifiers, the Kuwaiti team went into a training camp where they played against Singapore in an Abu Dhabi friendly, winning the encounter by 2-0.

The host for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup is yet to be determined after China withdrew from organizing the championship due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). There are 11 qualifying spots up for grabs for the AFC tournament. The draw for the tournament was held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on February 24 with teams separated into six groups consisting of four national teams. The teams topping their respective groups will qualify for the championship, while five best second place teams will also be present at the Asian Cup. Jordan, and Nepal complete the Group A line up.
