KUWAIT CITY, March 7: Kuwait has been crowned champion of the 5th Amir International Shooting Championship by topping the medal table with gold and silver medal apiece on the fifth and last day of the championship.

Veteran shooting champion of 1995, 1997 and 1998 championships who also won the World Cups in 1995, 1997, 2013 and 2014 Abdullah Al-Tarqi Al-Rashidi claimed gold medal in the men’s skate category. His compatriot Mohammad Nayef Al-Dehani won the silver medal after his 14-16 defeat by Al-Rashidi, and Czech shooter Danny Harberger won the bronze medal dubbing his British opponent Jeremy Bird 14-16 in the final.

In the men’s double trap category, Italian shooter Goosepy Savalia won gold medal, while the Olympic champion Fuhaid Al-Dehani won silver medal, and the bronze went to Hungarian shooter Rowland Gerbish.

Kuwait consolidated the top position with 3 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Kazakhstan and Italy followed with one gold medal each, while Lebanon and Switzerland won one silver medal each. Egypt, Czech and Hungary won one bronze medal each.

At the closing ceremony, President of Kuwait and Arab Shooting Federations Engineer Duaij Al-Otaibi expressed gratitude and appreciation to more than 350 sportsmen and women who represented 30 countries to the championship.

He said Kuwaitis were glad to host them at a time when all people were in the euphoria of celebrating the 55th Independence and 25th Liberation days, in addition to the 10th anniversary of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah’s assumption of office.

On behalf of members of the Arab Shooting Federation Board, he thanked the Amir for the sponsorship and unalloyed support for the championship to ensure the event matched the anticipated international standard.
