Kuwait continue to dominate fencing championship

MANAMA, Feb 9, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti fencing team won eight medals on the penultimate day of the GCC fifth tournament hosted by Bahrain.

Meshaal Al-Shemali, the head of the Kuwaiti delegation, told KUNA that the national team won two gold medals, three silver ones and four bronze in the tournament three main categories (saber, epe and floret).

In saber, the Kuwaiti fencer Abdullah Al-Shemali came first, Yousef Al-Shamlan second and Khaled Al-Shamlan third — the latter along with a Qatari fencer.

In the epe, Faisal Ashkanani came second while Hassan Fodari came third, along with a Qatari. The UAE team came first in this contest.

In floret, the Kuwaiti players won the three first ranks, with Ali Fadhel coming first, Khaled Abdulkarim second, Hussein Al-Fodari and Abdullah Ghloum third.

The Kuwaiti team has bagged since launch of the tournament a a total of 27 medals, including 10 gold, eight silver and 10 bronze. The championship ends tomorrow.  (KUNA)
