KUWAIT CITY, April 11: In a remarkable development concerning the closure of Al-Shuaiba Refinery, which was scheduled earlier for April 2017, Deputy Executive Director of the Refinery at Kuwait National Petroleum Company Engineer Metleq Al-Azmi disclosed the intention to reuse fuel tanks and export the derivatives of green fuel project.

He pointed out that the initiative will contribute to save 25 percent of the total cost of project, which is roughly one billion dinars, and it’s ideal for oil tankers and crude oil platform.

He pointed out that old fuel tankers will be modified as per latest specifications with filters and production lines. He added that 50 percent of fuel tankers will be modified and maintained to go with the new project, and the cost is lesser than spending on new fuel tankers.

On another note, Al-Azmi pointed to the importance of reinstating the production of Al-Shuaiba Refinery to 200 barrels per day, adding the refinery faces great challenges without its heavy oil unit whose closure is in the offing.
