Catalyst to stimulate chemical reaction

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 26, (KUNA): Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) announced that the Nanotechnology Program of the Institute of Energy and Building Research in the Institute has obtained a patent for mixing element magnesium (Mg) with nickel (Ni).

The Kuwaiti Institute has earned the patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, KISR said in a statement Thursday. The (Mg) was mixed with (Ni), which is used as a catalyst to stimulate the chemical reaction, using cold coating technology, the statement said, adding that this innovation is the first of its kind in this field.

The (Mg) is considered one of the most attractive elements in storing Hydrogen gas, due to its presence in nature in large quantities and being relatively inexpensive and for its high storage capacity and easy to prepare, the statement added. The patent registered under research team of Dr Mohammad Al- Iskandarani, Eng Fahad Al-Ajmi and En Mohammad Bunyan. This innovation came in the framework of institute’s interest in diversifying energy sources, especially new and renewable ones, indicating that (Mg) carries a promising hope for solving storing hydrogen gas problem, which is a source of concern for many scientific research parties globally.
