KIFF League new season ‘kicks off’ on October 27

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 23: The Kuwait Indian Football Federation (KIFF) is all geared to usher in the new season on Oct 27, at the Bayan Grounds.

The new season kicks off with the KIFF League for the late J.P. D’Mello Memorial Trophy. Fourteen affiliates registered with the federation are seeded into 2 groups of 7 each based on last season’s performance.

Group A in seeded order consists of Soccer Kerala, Curtorcares United, Indian Strikers FC, Skynet Miracles SC, United Goan Centre, Goa Football Club and Pen Friends United.

Group B comprises of Don Bosco Oratory, FC Sparks, AVC Overseas Sports & Cultural Association, Goa Maroons, Santos United, All Kerala Football Club and Tuskers FC.

The first phase of the league will be played on a round robin league format and the top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the semifinal knockout stage.

All the matches for season 2017-2018 will be officiated by Kuwait Indian Football Federation Referees Body played at the PAYS Grounds, Bayan.

The match fixtures for Oct 27, are as follows: at 6:45 am Soccer Kerala taken on Curtorcares United in the curtain raiser, followed by Indian Striker and Pen Friends at 8:00 am. At 9:00 am Skynet Miracles will test their strength against Goa Football Club.

In addition to the league, the federation will also conduct 11-a-side, 7-a-side, Veterans and Interschool tournaments. This is in addition to the tie-breaker in an action packed calendar which also marks the 34th anniversary of the federation.

Soccer crazy fans remain glued to their TV sets on Saturdays and Sundays watching their favorite European soccer leaving Friday the most desired of the days in this tiny oil emirate unoccupied until now for most of the soccer loving Indian residents.

For the idle critic the various world soccer leagues are elite with no comparison, but the passion for the game on match day is no different when it comes to soccer being organized by KIFF.

Over the past three decades soccer has become the most enjoyable and favorite routine for many Indian expats and all credit goes to KIFF for ensuring the continuity of this pastime.

The KIFF Managing Committee is headed by Derick Gomindes (President) Manuel D’Costa (Vice-President) Christopher Fernandes (General Secretary) Austin Abreo (Sports Secretary) Robert Bernard (Treasurer) Bernard Fernandes (Registrar), Max Gomes (Reliever), Majid P A (Assistant Sports Secretary) Ahmed Khan (P.R.O).
