KHK win prestigious KEHA trophy

Kuwait Hockey Kings (KHK) – Winners of the KEHA Hockey Tournament.

KUWAIT CITY, April 5: Kuwait Expats Hockey Association (KEHA) recently concluded the Hockey Festive which lasted for 3 months and Kuwait Hockey Kings (KHK) Captained by Yousuf Waseem won the prestigious KEHA Trophy by defeating Kuwait Independent Hockey (KIH) Captained by Tony on penalty strokes with a margin of 3-2 when both teams were leveled at 1-1 in normal given time of 20 mins each half. Where as in the 3rd place playoffs Don Bosco Oratory (DBO) smashed past 8 goals with a solitary reply of 1 goal from the KOC Blues.

The tournament was well contested over the period of 3 months. With round robin format, the level of hockey in Kuwait was seen with matches contested at high tempo and spirits. The matches took place under the supervision of KEHA President Sunil Almeida, and General Secretary Lloyd Fernandes, ensuring high quality hockey throughout the tournament. With expertise of Mahmood Alam as the Refree panel head, disciplinary lines were strictly followed. The third place play off was a one sided affair. With KOC Blues lacking the depth in squad, the men in blue were in for a tough evening. Bosco’s took full advantage of their strengths by smashing past 8, with Sherwin D’Souza scoring 5 goals.

The final was hotly contested between two teams who dominated the entire tournament with their constant performances. With KHK taking an early lead, the match promised to delight the hockey lovers in Kuwait. With constant attacks and missed opportunities from both teams to kill the game, it looked as KHK would take the title until a moment of brilliance from the Spanish ace of KIH Andres Perez San Emeterio, who leveled the scores just before the full time.

The match was decided on penalities, This is KHK’s first title in the elite league in their brief history under the Captaincy of young Yousef Waseem. Tournament’s highest scorer award was given to Sherwin D’souza (DBO) for his brilliant performance throughout the tournament. The best Goalkeeper was given to Kanishka PR (Kani) – KIH for his extra ordinary abilities in the goal. The best 50+ player was given to the veteran Aslam Bhatti (KOC Green) and lastly the best youngest player was given to our new upcoming Spanish player Jaime Perez San Emeterio (International Red).
