KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16: Police have arrested a 54-year-old Bangladeshi woman for begging for alms, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily said the woman was caught near the money exchange offices near the Mubarakiya Market. It was shocking to find KD 1,700 in possession of the woman who claimed the money was proceeds from begging. The ‘beggar’ who was reported absconding by her sponsor has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department to prepare her deportation.

Cop taking bribes: Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department have arrested an unidentified police officer for accepting bribe to release persons from police custody, according to a press release issued by the Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior. The press release said the officer has been referred to the Public Prosecution for legal and disciplinary action. The Department said the Interior Ministry is bent on applying the law on all without discrimination. Although this case is seen as an individual incident, it should serve as a deterrent to others.
