‘Joint efforts needed to beat traffic jams’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 18: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lieutenant-General Anwar Al-Barjas affirmed Monday keenness to combine efforts to develop practical and scientific solutions and to consolidate channels of cooperation and coordination between various authorities to reduce traffic jams. The General Administration of Relations and Security Media said in a statement that this came when the Undersecretary of the Interior, Chairman of the Supreme Traffic Council, chaired a meeting of the Council, in the presence of the Deputy Chairman of the Council, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works, Eng. Muhammad bin Nakhi, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information Saud Al-Khalidi, and the Director General of Kuwait Municipality, Engineer Ahmed Al-Manfouhi, and a number of concerned authorities.

The meeting discussed the directives of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and his follow-up to the traffic crisis through executive field tours to some areas that suffered traffic jams at the beginning of the school year and what was implemented in cooperation and coordination with some concerned authorities and ministries. The attendees discussed the application of the law to violators to limit serious traffic violations that pose a threat to lives and public and private property.

The meeting reviewed general policies, traffic plans and suggestions that push towards reducing traffic congestion on all main and secondary roads and in the vicinity of schools and universities. He also discussed the current traffic situation and the views of each party according to its specialization in order to reach quick solutions that contribute to facilitating the traffic movement and put in place a number of recommendations. At the end of the meeting, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the results of studies and suggestions that were discussed during the meeting, and the recommendations and decisions reached, will be presented to the Minister of Interior.
