Jacob, Satorre reign supreme at Valentine’s Cup – Arfit, JC lead Level C; Magno, Montemayor shine

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 24: Truly this is not only the month of love but also month of festivities as the country celebrates the Hala Festival, National Day and Liberation Day.

Subsequently the Valentine Cup tourney just completed the 2nd week elimination nearing the 3rd elimination this Friday. The passion for badminton can be seen as players are taking their stakes for the higher ranks in this tourney.

The pairs are being chosen by draw/rotation and their scores are being tallied for their rankings. Scoring is up to 21 and the 2 set winner will get 50 points while the loser is the sum of their score, for the 3 set winners its 42 points and the losing team is 21 plus their score in the 3rd set.

This tourney is brought to us by members and officers of the Filipino Badminton Club in Kuwait (FILBACK) headed by their overall director Noel Candolesas and tournament directors Nato Calanog and Alex Hernandez.

Level A

In Higher A Category the power players are Mathew Jacob with 366 points and Roy Satorre with 346 points. Mathew paired with Henry and lost to Edison and Gerry 21-13, 13-21 but clobbered Gerry and Allan 21-20, 21-14.

He teamed with Edison to smash his way past Puskaraj and Victor 21-14, 21-19. Together with Victor both men outclassed Edison and Henry 21-18, 19-21, 21-20.

Roy on the other hand paired up with Allan and thumped Nestor and Jess 21-15, 21-20 and with Gerry pummeled Victor and Nestor 21-13, 21-15. He and Edison lost to Puskaraj and Allan 16-21, 21-8, 16-21 but with Puskaraj they hammered Victor and Edison.

Meanwhile in the Lower A Category, we have Joel Gonzaga with 364 points and Rhommel Torres with 361 points. Joel together with Noel outlasted Andrei and Anthony 21-11, 18-21, 21-15, teamed up with Mon to tame Noel and Berlin 21-15, 21-20.

Joel and Andrei then beat Berlin and Neilbert 16-21, 21-11, 21-12 and with Berlin defeated Ainur and Neilbert 21-10, 16-21, 21-18.

Level B

In the Higher B Category top players are Abdul Rhaman Tarek with 349 points and Cris Castilla with 332 points. Tarek and Bonnie were beaten by Addy and Fred 21-19, 18-21, 21-17, and with Cris they overcame Rey and Sripad 19-21, 21-15, 15-14.

Tarek and Arjay slammed Joel and Chato 21-11, 21-17 and with Sripad they flattened Arnel and Romeo 21-13, 21-12. Cris on the other hand paired with Joel and outlasted Arjay and Fred 18-21, 21-19, 21-13 together with Romeo they defeated Fred and Chato 21-14, 18-21, 21-20 and with Nhoy they clobbered Bonnie and Rey 21-16, 21-13.

In Lower B Category Ambar Ojha with 358 points and Raymond Simundac with 343 points are taking the lead. Ambar paired with Yohan was beaten by Ano and Melissa 15-21, 21-18, 19-21 but together with Ano they smashed Raymond and Lukman 21-12, 21-14.

Ambar and Glaiza tamed Rami and Brent 14-21, 21-15, 21-10 and with Pranaf they hammered Ines and Ano 21-15, 21-10. As for Raymond, when paired with Melissa prevailed over Manik and Romeo 12-21, 21-20,21-17 and with Ariel they outclassed Leo and Rami 16-21, 21-7, 21-13 and with Abby they thrashed Majeed and partner 21-15, 21-15.

Level C

In Higher C Category still holding the crown is Arfit with 357 points and Emily Capati with 326 points. Arfit together with Zarah were thumped by Joan and Maridel 14-21, 21-20, 16-21 but with Emily as team mate crushed Zarah and Reem 21-16, 21-12.

He also paired with Amor to overcome Liza and Chito 21-14, 17-21, 21-14 and with Kenneth tamed Gerald and Apple 21-12, 21-16.

Emily on the other hand paired with Amor and lost to Arfit and Liza 10-21, 21-18, 17-21. She also paired with Zarah and was beaten by Apple and Reem 10-21, 21-17, 13-21 and together with Maridel was defeated by Arfit and Liza 16-21, 15-21.

Meanwhile in the Lower C Category, JC is still on top with 368 points with Joy Ampo in 2nd with 342 points. JC teamed up with Jaime to outclass Eugene and Jennifer 19-21, 21-15, 21-11 together with Joy tamed Ninette and Michelle 21-18, 14-21, 21-17.

JC and Adora outlasted Jennifer and Michelle 21-14, 15-21, 21-19 and together with Cath they thumped Jennifer and Amor 21-9, 21-19. Joy, paired with Aurora to thrash Sally and Julianne 13-21, 21-16, 21-20 and with Julianne defeated Aurora and Sally 21-19, 18-21, 21-20. Joy and Susan overcame Julianne and Amor 21-18, 19-21, 21-12 and with Cath slammed Adora and Julianne 21-17, 21-18; and with Ninette as partner they slammed Julianne and Amor 21-18, 21-19.

Level D

In Higher D Category the queens of the court are Juzziel Magno with 353 points and Maricel with 346 points.

Juzziel paired with Krista to hammer Kingsheen and Mishari 21-12, 21-14, and clobbered Mishal and Lilibeth 21-10, 21-10. Juzziel and Kingsheen were pummeled by Krista and Mishal 21-12, 21-13 but lost to Mishal and Remy 20-21, 14-21.

Juzziel and Marju slammed Arman and Kingsheen 21-19, 21-18, and with Remy tamed Mishal and Mishari 21-17, 21-16.

As for Maricel, together with Arman defeated Remy and Marju 21-18, 18-21, 21-16, paired with Remy to outlast Marju and Juzziel 21-18, 11-21, 21-18.

Maricel and Krista slammed Remy and Mishari 21-10, 21-11 but was beaten by Juzziel and Lilibeth 12-21, 21-19, 16-21, but when paired with Mishari they thrashed Kingsheen and Marju 21-20, 21-18.

As for the Lower D Category new toppers are Paul Montemayor on 367 points and Ross Laguardia on 362 points. Paul paired up with Sol to outlast Vergie and Rizza 19-21, 21-17, 21-20 and hammered Ross and Mylene 21-15, 21-11.

Paul and Vergie lost to Lilibeth and Ross 20-21, 11-21 but with Rizza they clobbered Mylene and partner 21-9, 21-11.

On the other hand Ross paired with Paul to pummel Mylene and Virgie 21-10, 21-5. Ross and Vergie crushed Rizza and Mylene 21-12, 21-7 and together with Rizza they flattened Mylene and Sol 21-13, 21-16.

Announcement: On March 4, 2016 there will be no games at the Al Nasser Sports gym because FILBACK joins the 4 Feathers Tournament which will be hosted by FBC at the Hawally Club for the Disabled.
