Human Rights notes changes in Kuwait’s ‘labor file’

72 individuals deported on daily bases

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 19: The Kuwait Society for Human Rights (KSHR) has observed the management changes related to the labor file in Kuwait from both negative and positive perspectives in the final quarter of the last year, it followed the actions of the Department of Deportation and Temporary Detention Affairs at the General Department of Correctional Facilities on deporting 18,221 in 2021 which means around 50 individuals per day, the association also noted the exclusion of 6,458 in the period of making the report which is around 35.4 % of the total number of deported persons in general, approximately 72 individuals deported on daily bases.

On the positive side, the association observed The Public Morals Protection and Anti-Human Trafficking Department creating a hotline to receive the reports and complaints of human trafficking, also the Public Authority of Manpower has assigned an e-mail to receive reports about any increase in the costs of recruiting domestic workers, where it studied the revival of automatic linking project with the labor providing countries as a step to take down the illegal visa trade.

Throughout 2021 the Kuwait Society for Human Rights provided 4,808 legal advices for the migrant labor in Kuwait, 309 psychological support cases, 366 work complain dealt with in 2021. In the context of leading a collaborative work in cooperation with US-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), to raise awareness between Kuwait laborers about their rights.
