The Criminal Court adjourned to May 12 the case referred to as “Hospitality of Ministry of Interior”, and dismissed the request of the defense team to release the accused on bail. The court also rejected a request to ban spread of reports about the case on social media.

The lawyer representing the accused Brigadier-ranked officer resubmitted his request for the release of his client on bail through payment of KD 10 million from his frozen bank account, stressing that this amount is equivalent to the embezzled amount.

In response, the Public Prosecution, represented by Deputy Director for Financial Prosecution Hamoud Al-Shami said such a request is like the trick of Archimedes, insisting that the embezzled amount is much higher than KD 10 million. He said the accused is turning the spotlight on some dark aspects of the case.

It is worth mentioning that the case has been filed against 24 individuals based on a report issued by State Audit Bureau concerning financial violations in the budgets of Ministry of Interior during the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 fiscal years. The allegations include theft of public funds, facilitating its theft, money laundering, forgery of official documents, and causing major harm to the public funds
