Main contractor demands refund of its KD 35 million guarantee

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: The contractor of Jaber Hospital is engaged in a dispute with Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Works for reassigning another contractor to supply and install medical equipment, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The daily quoting sources pointed out that the new contractor demolished some walls at the hospital in a primitive way and distorted the work done by the main contractor under the supervision of international consultants as per international criteria. Sources added the main contractor has demanded refund of its KD 35 million guarantee under the pretext that the 10-year guarantee expired when the Ministry of Health reassigned the project to another contractor.

They argued that the ministry should have asked the same contractor that initiated implementation of the hospital to supply the medical equipment, especially as he’s bound by 10 years guarantee. “It required advanced technical methods to cut the walls to install the medical equipment and to complete the restoration work”, they explained.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Public Works is said to have notifi ed the Ministry of Health to update the new contractor about the entry of medical equipment before it received the building, and the contractor was supposed to adjust the A/Cs in each room since each piece of equipment needs a specifi c temperature to work properly.
