KUWAIT CITY, May 17: Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Residence Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah said he has issued a decision to temporarily stop the extension of visit and commercial visit visas in all provinces to shut the door on those who bring in people and leave them on the streets of Kuwait for begging particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Jarrah added the beggars exploit Ramadan to arouse sympathy of people who offer charity. He added, the beggars collect between KD 20,000 and KD 30,000 during this month.

Al-Jarrah went on to say he has issued orders to the immigration investigations department to deport, in collaboration with the security sectors, people caught begging for alms during this month.

Al-Jarrah added the ministry would like to approve new fees on residence and visit visas to fill gaps in the face of expatriates who try to manipulate and circumvent the country’s laws.

However, he said the proposed fees and approval are within the powers of the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Sabah.
