KUWAIT CITY, May 2:  Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passport Affairs of Ministry of Interior Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah has instructed the directors of Immigration Affairs Department in all six governorates to allow Kuwaiti citizens to recruit only Bangladeshi men from overseas based on certain conditions, reports Aljarida daily quoting informed sources.

They explained that the conditions include the need for citizens who are planning to recruit Bangladeshi expatriates to present the official document of their houses. They can recruit only one Bangladeshi domestic worker from overseas, provided they have no other Bangladeshi domestic workers under their sponsorship.

The sources revealed that this decision was taken after the Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Sulaiman Al-Fahad visited Bangladesh in March and some of security agreements were signed for allowing the return of Bangladeshi domestic workers to Kuwait.

It is noteworthy that recruitment of Bangladeshi domestic workers from overseas was suspended in 2008 after a number of laborers from cleaning companies held strikes and because of the high crime rate among the Bangladeshi expatriates.
