Greece Team celebrate after being crowned 2019 FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo champions

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 21: Greece beat Serbia 6-4 to be crowned 2019 FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo champions, in the final held at Kuwait’s Sheikh Naser Al-Mohammad aquatics complex.

The Greeks maintained their lead throughout proceedings as goalkeeper Nikolaos Mitrakis’ heroics prevented the Serbs from edging higher – earning him a goalkeeper of the tournament award. Italy trail in third after a 9-6 triumph over Croatia, the Croats having suffered red cards being handed out to two players in the encounter.

Spain came fifth after a convincing 14-8 triumph over Montenegro, with the United States of America trailing in sixth after beating Japan. Following the event, head of the Kuwait and Asian swimming bodies Sheikh Khaled Al-Bader Al-Sabah praised Kuwait’s hosting of the tournament as a success. (KUNA)
