KUWAIT CITY, July 4: All rounder Shivon Gomes and Miriam Fazlullah Resteen of “Go Getters” shine at the Ramadan Sports Mania 2016, in Fr Francis Kharjia Ladies box cricket tournament held at IEAS.
Hard hitting Ms Gomes in a new era in the Ladies Box Cricket tournament and made her mark on the court by setting high standards in batting and fielding is now know as a “Fearless batswoman” and wining the Highest Scorer of the ladies Tournament.
Playing for the first time at DBO Box Cricket in an environment totally new, one of inspiring young woman of daring nature is Ms Reshteen of team “Go Getters” a calm head and stylish batting style was presented with Best emerging players in the ladies category.
Jseraz’s should have had more runs on the board all their effort in bowling could have paid off. Their hopes scarcely seemed likely even though wickets were taken, had to take the wicket of Ms Gomes when they had the opportunity of a run out. It was Stephanie Pereira of Jseraz’s taking the award for the highest wickets taker in the tournament.
Earlier, in the DBO Carrom tournament where 18 players demonstrate their skills, in presence of a large crowd, featured some very strong players. Newcomer Mustafa beat Shyam Sundar in the finals of the 6th Open Don Bosco Oratory Carrom Tournament. Mustafa, who made it to the doubles finals with his partner Ismail defeated Abdulla and Pervez. Exhibiting a consistency and solid technique, Mustafa and his partner proved they were a team to reckon with.
There was a request for the participating members to hold this tournament twice a year. There are many, who are not privileges to participate because of the working hours. Further the request is to hold it all Kuwait Carrom Champion ship and to have open boards for public to play, after a day’s work.
Men Box Cricket, finalist Dubop vs Scorpions: both opening pair of Team Dubop Nawaf Inamdar and Yatan Joshi put on the runs in the first two over’s, before the informs and highest scorer of the tournament was bowled. It was the Jassim Mohammed who made the difference in the finals and deservingly was named player of the finals three 4’s and taking 3 wickets in the last over. The dreadful form captain of Scorpions Sharan Noronha is the man who has build and shaped this exciting new side.
24 teams registered in this year Rink Football tournament held at the IEAS quadrangle, it’s one of the most popular tournaments in Kuwait along with Box Cricket. After finals of the Ladies and Men Box Cricket, it was Mumbaikars take on Team Team in the Rink Football finals. The finals was experience Mumbaikars taking on a all youth (under 17 years) Team Team full of skills. Thrilling finals with commentary from Leo Rodrigues, kept the crowd on their toes. The first half ended goalless. Spectators present to support their teams as the match got more intense.
Young Haroon living up to his expectation gave his team the lead through a penalty making no mistake finding the net. It was in the last 3 minutes Mumbaikars slipped in the two goals for an error made by Team Team by playing defensive trying to keep the 1/0 lead.
The crowd witnessed the young guns playing tough against an experience side — Steven Correia, Vishal Kotak, Ricky Sebastian, Kumail Ali and Peter Fernandes, could not just break through the young lads with no substitutes to replace the playing 4.
Don Bosco Oratory were honored to have Fr Blany Pinto — sdb, Fr Derrick Misquitta — sdb and Fr Franco Pereira — sdb present for the finals and hand over the awards to the players.
