KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: The chain of scandals concerning misappropriation of public funds continue to stream, in the wake of the recent exposure at the Government and Manpower Restructuring Project (GMRP) regarding ambiguities surrounding KD10 million paid to some 5,500 employees of 45 government agencies, reports Al-Rai daily.

Secretary General of the program Fawzi Al-Majdali explained that the sum was paid in the form of social allowance and children allowance to support the employees, in line with the decision of the Council of Ministers stipulating the payment of allowances to professionals and artisans in private sector. He disclosed that the program has contacted all concerned agencies to take necessary steps toward recovery of the funds.

He indicated the affected employees collected the sum while working in private sector before they moved to the public sector but investigation carried out in that regard revealed that they were still studying at the period. He explained that rules governing entitlement to the allowance stipulates the beneficiary should not combine work in the private sector with study.
