GCC shooters compete in Champ’ship – Crown Prince’s unlimited support hailed

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21: His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah 13th GCC Shooting Championship for men and women kicked off at the Sabah Al- Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex. The competition started on Oct 20 and will end on the 25th.

Shooters from all six GCC member states are participate in the championship which will include various types of contests including trap shooting and air pistol. These contests are aimed to prepare the GCC teams to participating in the Asian Shooting Championship which is scheduled to be held from November 1-12, 2015 at Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex. The winners of the Asian championship will qualify for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics in Brazil.

Secretary General of Kuwait and Arab shooting unions Obaid Al-Osaimi commended His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf for his unlimited support in the sport, expressing gratitude for his sponsorship of the annual shooting championship. He also thanked the chairpersons and secretary-generals of Gulf shooting unions as well as all participating shooters from GCC countries, affirming that the board of Kuwait Shooting Club has allotted valuable awards for the winners of the championship.

Al-Osaimi stressed that all concerned committees have completed preparations for the championship, indicating that Kuwait Shooting Club’s pride about the number of international and Kuwaiti judges involved in the championship. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti marksman Mohammad Al-Beghaili affirmed that the Kuwaiti shooting team has prepared thoroughly for the competition.

Furthermore, shooting referee Fawaz Al-Shatti revealed that the Kuwaiti referees underwent training in the past two days and they reviewed all the rules and instructions. He indicated that 27 Kuwaiti referees will be involved in the various contests of the championship.

In addition, Emirati shooter Ayesha Al- Yassi commended her country’s national team for their preparedness for such an important GCC championship, which according to her is a good chance for gaining experience and developing skills especially since it is being held in prelude to the Olympics 2016 in Brazil. She revealed that the Emirati team participating in the championship includes nine trap shooters.
