KUWAIT CITY, Oct 15: The collection of garbage in some areas of Kuwait is normal, says the Director of the Hygiene Department at the Kuwait Municipality branch Meshaal Al-Azmi, reports Al-Rai daily.

However, he was quick to defend his statement saying this is to change of hands of contracting companies which have led to the accumulation of the garbage in some areas. What he meant change of hands is new companies have won the road cleaning tender and that the garbage is expected to be cleared sooner than later.

Al-Azmi told the daily that the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Fahd Al- Shoula is personally following up the hygiene file, and that the Director- General of Kuwait Municipality Eng Ahmed Al-Manfouhi has stressed on hygiene and issued clear instructions to all hygiene departments the need to deal immediately with any complaint received by the Municipality.

This is in addition to the field tours that are being taken around the clock, and the distribution of inspectors to follow up companies, stressing that “the municipality is working hard to lift garbage from the streets and from in front of the houses.” He pointed out that the situation is under control, especially since it has been only two days since the beginning of the work of the new contractors, and that most of the published pictures and videos is a collection of garbage in commercial areas, and not in private housing, model or investment.

He added, the garbage containers placed near commercial malls and shops are different from containers distributed in residential areas and called on the citizens and residents to support the municipality inspectors through cooperation, as the departments deal with complaints on the go, without any failure.
