Municipality dept preps workplan to intensify inspection campaigns in RamadanKUWAIT CITY, May 16: With preparations in full swing for the fast-approaching month of Ramadan, Director of Public Relations Department at Kuwait Municipality Abdulmohsen Aba Al-Khail convened a meeting with directors and heads of Department of General Cleanliness and Road Works in all branches of Kuwait Municipality across the country, reports Al-Seyassah daily.He affirmed that the Public Relations Department has prepared a working plan under the slogan “Your health is a trust” to intensify inspection campaigns before and during the month of Ramadan due to the high turnout of citizens and residents to buy foodstuffs during Ramadan. Al-Khail indicated that this period also witnesses the widespread phenomenon of hawkers in front of mosques, cooperative societies and at traffic lights who sell foodstuffs without possessing health certificates that verify they do not carry diseases. He explained that Kuwait Municipality has made its fight against negative phenomena such as hawking, pop-up markets, and Ramadan tents as its top priority.The campaigns aim at ensuring the foodstuffs provided to consumers are safe and have been tested in the laboratories of Ministry of Health. Al-Khail affirmed that the monitoring apparatus will apply the law with all firmness on violators. He also indicated that the inspection campaigns will include cleaning all arenas of the mosques and removing abandoned vehicles in the parking lots of mosques in order to remove all obstacles for the worshippers.Al-Khail stressed that the foodstuffs confiscated from hawkers will be destroyed immediately, especially since they have been exposed to unhealthy environment such as extremely hot temperatures which alters its natural qualities. In addition, these hawkers do not have health certificates that confirm they are disease-free. He urged everyone to buy foodstuffs from places where the food has been laboratory-tested and the operations therein are periodically monitored.Al-Khail said reports or complaints over any suspicions related to foodstuffs can be given through the municipality Hotline Number 1844448. Meanwhile, the Ahmadi Municipality’s Municipal Services Monitoring and Follow-up Department launched an inspection campaign on shops, restaurants, cooperative societies, food factories and warehouses on the occasion of the advent of the month of Ramadan. During the campaign, the inspection team issued ten citations against violations and ensured two declarations of commitment were signed.
